Background

Risk and Safety – Immersive and Interactive are part of the Maker Immersion project which was supported by the Victorian Government under the Workforce Training Innovation Fund (WTIF).

The Product

Maker Immersion is an integrated set of resources packaged to deliver a Cert IV and Diploma in building and construction (building). Each resource component is designed for easy integration, so the components can be purchased individually for use in any industry. The virtual reality component includes immersive experiences, developed to teach the core knowledge, theory, and principles,
and the interactive experiences, to provide a real-world application in a low-risk environment.

Maker Immersion Risk & Safety (Immersive)

Maker Immersion Immersive Experience for Module 1 – Risk and Safety, defineshazards and risks and introduces a risk management process. This process isdefined as identifying the hazards, assessing the risk, applying controls tomitigate the risk and then reassessing the risk.

Maker Immersion Risk & Safety (Interactive)

Risk and Safety (interactive) allows trainees to demonstrate their understanding of the hazards and risk management process in the context of a site walkaround. This process is assessed by trainees identifying hazards in an environment, classifying the type of hazard, assessing the risk, applying possible controls and then assessing the residual risks. The provided areas are all from alow rise residential building, shown in various stages of construction. These environments are a piling, earthworks and footing construction activities in the basement; the central courtyard/atrium of the building and one bedroom apartment.

Both QUT and Real Serious Games are now working on taking the game across Australia.
