IN COLLABORATION WITH EXNER EDUCATION MAKER IMMERSION – RISK AND SAFETY THE MAKER PROJECT WAS SUPPORTED BY THE VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT AS PART OF THE WORKFORCE TRADE INNOVATION FUND (WTIF)

Risk and Safety – Immersive and Interactive are part of the Maker Immersion project which was supported by the Victorian Government under the Workforce Training Innovation Fund (WTIF).

Problem

Traditional risk and safety training often lacks real-world application and as a result, knowledge is often not effectively retained. In the building and construction industry, workers face significant risks, making it essential to provide effective and efficient training to prevent accidents and injuries.

SOLUTION

In collaboration with Exner Education, Real Serious Games developed Maker Immersion, an integrated set of resources packaged to deliver a Certificate IV and Diploma in Building and Construction (Building). This virtual reality training package included immersive experiences designed to teach the core knowledge, theory, and principles of risk and safety, while interactive experiences provide real-world applications in a low-risk environment.

Immersive Experience: This module of the training defines hazards and risks and introduces a risk management process for identifying hazards, assessing the risk, applying controls to mitigate the risk, and then reassessing the risk.

Interactive Experience: This section of the training allows trainees to demonstrate their understanding of the hazards and risk management process from the previous module in the context of a site walkaround at various stages of construction.

VALUE

The combination of immersive and interactive experiences in the Maker Immersion training solution enables trainees to learn and apply risk and safety principles effectively with greater knowledge retention. The low-risk environment provided by virtual reality allows trainees to practice and demonstrate their understanding of the hazards and risk management process.

Supported by the Victorian Government under the Workforce Training Innovation Fund (WTIF), the Maker Immersion project is a demonstration of the value of virtual reality technology in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of risk and safety training in the building and construction industry.

LIKELY APPLICATIONS ELSEWHERE

Each resource component of Maker Immersion is designed for easy integration and can be purchased individually, providing a cost-effective and time-efficient training solution in any industry.
